Construction at Gautrain
SPG executives have been involved across the Gautrain project in various construction projects and the Bombela family of companies.
The following contracts have been completed:
- The construction of the Depot building in Midrand in JV with Stefanutti was completed and largely handed over to BCJV. The Depot Building or “White House” as named by Bombela staff is located in Midrand and all Gautrain systems and operations are based at this premises. The project was completed in 2009.
- Construction of the Cut and Cover 6 earthworks close to UNISA in JV with Stefanutti was concluded in July 2010. The earthworks was in preparation for the route to the Pretoria station.
- Dolomite Void filling in Centurion in JV with Stefanutti was completed in August 2010. Due to possible anticipated problems relating to poor ground condition related to dolomite in the Centurion area, the JV secured the route of the Gautrain with an estimate 150 000 cubic metres of cement.
- The construction of a multi level parking facility in Hatfield in JV with Concor was completed and handed over to the client in July 2010. The station is based close to The University of Pretoria.
- The decks of Modderfontein concrete bridge in JV with Stefanutti have been completed;
- Midrand Station in JV with Concor was completed in July 2010. The JV was responsible for the construction of the parking area, station building, access roads and fencing based in close proximity to Grand Central Airport.
- The flag ship station of the project, Sandton station was constructed in a JV with M&R and completed in October 2011. Sandton station, based in the heart of the Sandton business centre in close proximity to Mandela Square and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, offers 4 levels of parking to commuters, with the platforms being approximately 56m below ground level; and
- Rosebank Parkade, situated next to Oxford Road and Rosebank Mall, in JV with Liviero has commenced and was completed and handed over by January 2011.
Isithimela Rail Service (PTY) LTD
Isithimela Rail Services, a company established in partnership with Bombardier, was responsible for the track laying for the Gautrain.
The track for the Gautrain was finally delivered in March 2011; this includes the rail in the tunnel from Sandton Station to Park Station and from Sandton to Hatfield station.
