Strategic Partners Group (Proprietary) Limited
The Strategic Partners Group ("SPG") was formed in 2006 when a Shareholders' Agreement was signed by a group of 12 organisations and individuals representing the broad-based interests of a large spectrum of previously disadvantaged people.
The Group was initially established to partner the Bombela Consortium in the bid for the Gautrain Project. However, due to its strong empowerment credentials, it was always intended that the company could and would be used as a vehicle to pursue other investment opportunities.
The shareholders of the Group represent a wide range of South Africa's previously disadvantaged population. They include professionals, youth, women, organised black business and black managers.
SPG Head Office
SPG maintains a small but core and efficient operation at 1 Sandton Drive, the company's head office. The operations that are based at 1 Sandton Drive include the office of the Executive Chairman, Facilities Management and Information Services, Finance and payroll administration.
SPG Operations Office
The offices for all SPG operations are based in the Growthpoint Midrand Office Park. These operations include Security, Advertising, Construction, Project Facilities Services, Human Resources and the company's ICT Project. Salary Data Input and Payroll Services will also be based at these offices.
Optinet Systems, is a leading rail telecommunications and infrastructure turn-key company and responsible for laying of telecoms network in the Gautrain Rail Reserve, from inception.
Optinet Systems delivers high availability integrated telecommunication solutions, including fibre optic networks, CCTV, data transmission, clock, public address, passenger information, SCADA and telephony systems into existing assets as well as greenfield projects. Optinet Systems offers an expanded portfolio of services comprising of project management, system design, system integration, equipment supply, installation, testing and commissioning.
It was acquired by SPG (through its wholly owned subsidiary Isithimela ICT Company (Pty) Ltd) in August 2020. This strategic acquisition places SPG at the forefront of rail and other infrastructure telecommunications projects, as well as a strong footing in the communications technology sector in general.
SPG holds 57% majority stake in Optinet Systems and thus the latter its subsidiary. This makes Optinet Systems a majority black owned company.
Optinet Systems is headed by Carl Weber (founder and CEO) and Malcolm Smith (a fibre installations expert), the company continues to be the preferred supplier of telecommunications systems in the Gautrain and beyond.
SPG Subsidiaries
The SPG Group is organised into three functional areas, all of which are 100% owned by the company. The three wholly-owned subsidiaries are SPG Concessions, SPG Investments and Operations and SPG Construction.
